What other things should I expect after the operation?
Aside for pain and discomfort, there are other things one should expect:
Ear Pain: This pain is typically not from your ears but from your throat. The same nerve that innervates (connects to) your throat also innervates (connects to) your ear.
Fever: Low-grade fevers (<100.5? F) are acceptable after surgery. You may give Tylenol and plenty of fluids
Bad Breath: After surgery, the tonsillar areas will be covered with a white exudate sometimes and you may have bad breath for up to 12 days.
Change in Voice: If the tonsils are very large, speech may become different after the operation. This may be temporary and may resolve to his/her normal voice after the swelling resolves.
Continued Snoring: Even after the tonsils and uvula are removed your child may still be snoring immediately after the operation. This should resolve after the swelling is reduced.
