Tongue Advancement/Stabilization Procedure & Hyoid Advancement

If the back of the tongue is a significant cause of obstruction at night, you may also be a candidate for a tongue advancement or stabilization procedure. This technique utilizes a surgical loop to bring forward the back of the tongue improving airflow in the back of the throat at night.

If the back of the throat (pharynx) is redundant (sags) especially at night, it may cause airway obstruction. A hyoid advancement procedure may address this problem. In this procedure, the hyoid cartilage, which is located at the upper angle of the neck, is lifted up to “stretch out” the back of the throat improving airflow.
