Radiofrequency Volumetric Reduction (Somnoplasty)

Radiofrequency Volumetric Reduction techniques may be done in the office or in the operating room. This technique uses low-power radiofrequency energy to reduce the excess soft tissue of the base of tongue and soft palate. After 6 to 8 weeks following the procedure, these areas begin to reduce in size and stiffen causing less snoring and easier breathing. The use of radiofrequency energy is less invasive and painful than UP3/Tonsillectomies. Typically the procedure takes 30 to 45 minutes with patients returning to their normal work activity the next day. Optimal results require more than one treatment. After the procedure, there is typically some swelling and discomfort requiring pain medications for a few days.
