Uvulectomy (LAUP)

If you have an enlarged or elongated uvula (the “bell” at the back of the throat), you may be a candidate for a uvulectomy to reduce your snoring. A common source of snoring is from the fluttering of the soft palate (the soft part of the top of the mouth) as well as the uvula. This office procedure removes the uvula under local anesthesia.

This procedure is often combined with a palatal procedure such as Injection Snoreplasty [link to respective page], Pillar Procedure [link to respective page], or Radiofrequency Volume Reduction [link to respective page], to further reduce snoring.

The technique is done in the office in one day under local anesthesia (“freezing” the throat using sprays, gels, and Lidocaine). A state of the art high frequency radioablator is used to remove the uvula with minimal bleeding.
